Text Box: ABC Arkenbouw Text Box: MOORING SYSTEM FOR FLOATING HOUSES For ABC Arkenbouw, a Dutch company that produces floating houses, four team members and I designed a mooring system. The project was part of the master education Integrated Product Design of Delft University of Technology. The majority of the floating houses is moored onto poles that are fixed into the ground. Since the bracket that attaches the floating house to the poles was tailor made for every situation, the design briefing was specified to “design a flexible mooring system”. The designed system is suitable for square and round poles with different sizes. A large amount of steel is replaced by Phillystran rope, which is normally used for marine applications. The Phillystran ropes are lighter and stronger than steel cables wth the same diameter. This makes the designed system lighter than the existing system, which makes it easier to install. By adding rollers to the system the amount of friction and therefore maintenance are reduced.
